| 1. Jim Chodack & Don Capanear - 4 bass, 10.58 lbs 2. Team Here Fishy Fishy (Vance and Brian Chase) - 5 bass, 6.96 lbs 3. Team Geiss (Don and Don Sr.) - 3 bass 4.96 lbs The next tourney will be on Swartswood Lake on Saturday 5 May from 0600-1200 hrs. We will try to use the state ramp. It will be a paper tourney. Because it's offsite, anyone can be your partner, so long as one of you work here at Picatinny or are military. Let me know if you plan to fish. | Fellow Anglers, A couple things I need to remind people of - Please be sure to read the new PA-Reg 215-1 for all hunting, fishing and trapping rules on post AND the 2012 sportsman's map! You can find links to these documents on Han's PR&GA webpage - http://w4.pica.army.mil/outdoor/RodGun.htm Related to this I have witnessed several boats that were not aware you MUST stay south of the first major point past the island on Picatinny Lake during duty hours (Mon-Fri, 0730-1700 hrs). The reg also describes the guest policy for fishing, how to display your fishing permit and vehicle pass, how to register your boat with Outdoor Rec, creel limits, and safety restrictions that have to be adhered to when traveling afield or on the water on post, etc. PLEASE READ BOTH DOCUMENTS THROROUGHLY! As a permit holder you are responsible for knowing the regs for hunting/fishing on post. As JVDV will tell you - Ignorance is no excuse for the law! ALSO: We will need help for a work party at Lake Denmark before we hold the pickerel contest on 20 May. Here is what needs to be done: 1. Reposition the plastics grey floating dock parallel to the ramp, and drives stakes to secure it 2. Cut some sticker bushes, weeds and brush along the entrance road to the ramp and parking areas. 3. Float the new pieces of dock (3) and maybe the old wooden docks (3 if they all still float); and secure them somehow to the Rip Rap bank, so they don't float away or break loose in the weather or ice. a. The new dock pieces will need to be transported up from the shed at Picatinny Lake b. This will require a piece of heavy machinery (front end loader or crane?); to move the 2 heavy wooden docks which are currently up on land. So this requires coordination with Han's friends from DPW. I can use some advice on how best to secure the dock pieces to each other and the bank and/or lake bottom, so they remain in place More to follow on the work party. But I'm hoping many of you will show up, as you are the primary users of the ramp and dock area on Denmark. Thanks, Tom Hartigan PR&GA Fishing Committee Chair 973-724-5268 office 201-694-7839 cell tom.hartigan@us.army.mil |
| Crowded Lake Spooky Bass Newcomers Jim Chodack and Don Capanear Take Castoff Classic A record field of 14 boats took to Picatinny Lake on a sunny but blustery Easter Saturday morning. After the first couple hours of the 2012 Castoff Classic most of the bass in Picatinny Lake had already seen an offering or two or lures pass by. So it wasn’t a surprise on this early spring day that started in the 30s, that the largemouth population was more than a little finicky. First time Picatinny Anglers Jim Chodack and Don Capanear didn’t take long to figure out the lake. They found 4 of Picatinny’s finer fish to put together a 10 ½ pound bag which was more than enough to hold off the other 13 boats that morning. Jim anchored their creel with a near 4- pounder that took a spinner bait and held up for tourney lunker. Their other fish were caught on creature baits pitched in the middle of the lake. Team Here Fishy Fishy (AKA Vance and Brian Chase) again proved their prowess for springtime fishing by landing 5 bass weighing almost 7 pounds on plastic grubs in the middle of the lake, good for second place. And Team Geiss rounded out the leaderboard in third place with 3 bass weighing nearly 5 pounds that took their offerings of jigs and superflukes. And finally Cody Wabiszewski wanted everyone to know they found a bass willing to hit their soft plastic bait. The next tourney will be offsite at Swartswood Lake just outside of Newton, NJ on Saturday 5 May. This will be a paper tourney during the catch and release season. Each boat will need a golden rule or equivalent. Anyone can fish, as long as one of the team members is a regular on the PR&GA tourney trail. |

| Todd Reilly & Aaron Graybill did a great job with the Smallies! The Results : 1. Todd Rielly & Aaron Graybill, 8 bass, 132.5" 2-tie. Click Schreck & Mark Keck, 7 bass, 106.5" 2-tie. Tom Hartigan & Rich Swanson, 7 bass, 106.5" Lunker - Click Schreck, 21.5" largemouth |

| Click Schreck And his absolutely great looking Lunker award winner ! |
The PR&GA Tourney Trail continued with another strong showing when 10 boats set out on Swartswood Lake with their electric motors, a measuring ruler and tally board for a paper tourney during the catch- and-release season. The anglers were hoping the bass would have love on their minds with the full moon. But cooler weather and water temps leading up to the event left most of them just shy of the spawning flats. Army recruiter Todd Reilly and partner Aaron Graybill had the most success landing, measuring and releasing 9 bass on the calm overcast morning. Their 8 best measured a respectable 132.5 inches earning them their first win on the trail. Most of their bass took an assortment of plastic craws and creature baits fished off points and drop-offs just outside the spawning flats. Swartswood showed good potential as a bass fishery by yielding several smallmouth and largemouth bass over the 3 and 4 pound class to the visiting Picatinny anglers. None were more impressive then Click Schreck’s 21.5” bass that would have weighed well over 5 pounds - good for lunker bass honors. Click’s pre-spawn sow just out-measured a 21 incher landed by Jim Chodack. Click’s bass anchored a nice creel of 7 bass he and partner Mark Keck landed on Senkos and frogs, measuring over 106 inches and putting them in a tie for 2nd place. Also tied for 2nd with 7 bass measuring 106.5” was the team of Rich Swanson and Tom Hartigan. Rich and Tom caught most of their fish on faster moving reaction baits, including topwater poppers, crankbaits and jerkbaits. The next tourney will be a pickerel roundup on Lake Denmark on Sunday 20 May. We are hoping for a record field on Denmark to help put a dent in the pickerel population, before more bass are stocked on the 22nd. After that the PR&GA Bassmasters return to the tour with another offsite Bass tournament on Cranberry Lake on Father’s Day in June. Picatinny Rod & Gun Assoc.
